The
Indian Forester, started its career as the outcome of a
resolution of the forestry conference held at Allahabad in
January 1874.
The moving spirits in this venture were dedicated foresters like
Baden–Powell, Laird, Gamble and Smythies under the able guidance
of Dr. Brandis who was the then Inspector General of Forests,
with Dr. Schlich as the first honorary editor of the Indian
Forester.
The credit for the success of the journal goes to stalwarts like
Sir Dr. Brandis, Schlich, Pearson, Ribbentrop, Gamble, Wroughten,
Lace, Wilmot, and other dedicated foresters.
